I believe in was in the Buckhorn Orphanage between April and Oct. of 1958. I was born in Mount Mary Hospital (Hazard, KY) April 25 and my adopted parents took me home in Oct. 1958. However, no idea where I was between Apr and Oct.
Adopted father has passed away and adopted mother is not able to provide any information.
I have about 6 months of time unaccounted for.
Do you have any history or information regarding Buckhorn?

The name of the orphanage or children's home was Rural Evangel Mission. It was located in dice ky On Lost creek. I have all the info you want but you can also find it under that name. It was ran by Pop Hunter and his wife Katherine aka MaHoney, and Sally Pattweeson who died in my home over 15 years ago. She took care of my father and In her later years she came to live with us and we took care of her. Please feel free to email me email@example.com Hope this helps.

The name of the orphanage in Buckhorn was the Buckhorn Child Presbyterian agency. It was run by the Presbyterian Church not sure of the date it closed , but files were turned Over to Berea College. I was there from 1957 to 1960 and graduated 8th grade there. Then I was unofficially adopted by a couple from Annville Ky. It was a beautiful facility with dorm, cafeteria, school and gym. The campus was beautiful in its day. Now today the job and family services have taken over the girls dorm and the campus has decreased in size. The old church is still there. Most of the other buildings are gone or in need of going. I have many wonderful memories of being there. We were treated after coming from broken homes/etc. with much respect. I have photos and am on Facebook
