I'm just curious. I'm not talking about fast food restaurant jobs either; I'm really talking about new businesses that don't include serving food for minimum wage. There were rumors going around about a Hobby Lobby coming to Perry County in the spring of this year, but shortly after everyone here started believing that it was going to happen, people started saying that the rumors weren't true. Something like that would be nice to have here because I have heard that it pays better than minimum wage and that its employees are treated very well. Has anyone on here heard anything about a possible recent change in plans that may bring a Hobby Lobby here after all? Hope springs eternal.

Food City is getting a Starbucks, according to the word on the street in Hazard. You may be able to get a full time job there, if that rumor is true. It will probably pay minimum wage, too, though. Sorry.

Hazard needs decent paying jobs that don't feel like slave work, not more fast food restaurants contributing to the obesity problems of Eastern Kentucky.

I keep rumors about that too.

an aluminum company called Dajcor supposed to be bringing at least 265 jobs to Perry County , Kentucky . my guess would be that most of the people who will get hired there will not even be from East Kentucky though sadly .

If you want to hop up to Ashland, you may be able to get a job with Braidy Industries, an aluminum-related business also, that is, if you don't mind that it's supposedly coming there because of Russia investing $200 million into the Kentucky project. The New York Times has some great reading about that today. "Rusal", I believe is the name of the Russian company that Braidy Industries partnered with for this deal.

Yes, go join the US Army and make a good life for yourself and put the poverty stricken Eastern Kentucky life behind you. There is life beyond the mountains.

This is what it's come to in a part of coal country Kentucky that took too long to accept that coal will is not their future.

265 jobs are a very good thing, but Perry County needs a lot more good-paying jobs than that. I wonder how many local people around here will apply for a job at that aluminum company, if it does actual come here, but won't get a job there just because they can't pass a drug test. Remember though, Pikeville, a place that is doing much better than Hazard, was supposed to get a 300 million dollar battery plant that was going to create at least 800 jobs starting out, but that company decided not to relocate there after all that planning and talk about it that get so many people's hopes up. That was an enormous let-down for the people of that area. 800 new, good-paying jobs would have been such a great thing for Pikeville. It's just best to not count your chickens before they hatch.

Again, excuse these typing errors of mine. This internet connection is still acting up here. I think I made my point though, comprehensible enough.
