hi everybody as i was driving by the old commissary a bull dozer was cleaning up the remains of what was left of the building, i wonder if anyone thought to look for the time capsule that is usually placed in the corner stone of a building signed by the people that had it built and dated so that who ever finds it years later would know when it was placed there, it sure would be interesting if one could be found, i know that the church is supposed to have one. the church is the last thing left standing in hardburly as a landmark, the miners had it built for their families. through the years it has served so many people in their time of need, whether it is for a funeral, wedding, some are times of joy and some are of sadness. everybody enjoy the day.
hi everybody it is a pretty day, a little cool, but better than snow. two more days until valentine's day, this sure was a special day when we were going to school, we always had a party to look forward too, also one of us would get the valentine box, which was a hat box decorated real pretty, i always wanted one but someone else always got it, but it was exciting just thinking you might be the one to get it, we would always count how many cards we would get, we would read them and thinking in our mind that the person that sent it meant they felt that way, which of course they didn't it was just the card that they signed. everybody have a good day.
hi everybody spring is on it's way if the saying is true, that you can hear the frogs croaking, i was up lotts creek today at balis napier cemetary and the frogs were going strong, that is the first time i had heard them this year, i sure hope they are right and spring is here, although the weatherman is giving some snow for tomorrow, not much just a scattering, just as long as it is not 24" like new york got this weekend. uk and florida play basketball tonight, and president obama is giving the state of the union speech. everybody have a good evening, enjoy the ball game.
good morning everybody looks like we are starting the day off with rain, this will make the flowers pop up out of the ground, the easter lilies are already up. the site of the old commissary sure looks different now, it is odd to pass by and not see it anymore. also the old water pond where we use to get our water from is gone, it has been reclaimed so there is not too much left that we had growing up, but with time all things changes, as we get older all of our lives changes, some for the better, some for the worse, it is the way that we look at things and do that makes a difference, we look back sometimes and think of things we could have done and didn't, but there is no use to dwell on yesterday, it is what we do today and from now on that counts. everybody enjoy the day, make it a good day.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYBODY HOPE THIS IS A GREAT DAY FOR EVERYONE. the sun is shining on the mountains this morning, it is supposed to be in the 50's so this will be a nice day to go out. today being the middle of feb, it won't be long now until spring, seems like this has been a long winter, but the bright sunshine seems to make a difference in our moods. everybody have a great day, be thankful for what the Lord has blessed you with, there is a purpose in life for all of us, we may not always understand what it is sometimes, but make the best of what you have.
hi everybody hope this has been a good day for you. please pray for the riley family, their brother kenny died. their father joe died about 2 years ago. it is always hard to go through a death in the family. please pray for ed grubbs and for his brothers that take care of him. he is back home after being in the hospital. the days are getting longer, already after 6pm and still light outside. everybody have a good evening. pray for those in need and for each other.
hi everyone, hope that all is well in the big city of Hardburly and that everyone is well and warm. the weather here is still on the chilly side, we had a little wind and a touch of rain here today, that makes it a little rough working outside the way i do but it isn't too awful if you keep moving. fe, i was hoping that they would leave someting there where the old commisary was burned out to see when i came home but i guess i will have to just look at my old pictures. i wish i had taken more of the old place when it was in better condition but i didn't, i guess you never expect it to leave suddenly. hope that some of the old forum family get back on here and start posting again, that would be great, thanks for keeping us updated on the homefront and all, i appreciate you alot, everyone have a great evening, hugs and prayers to all---------sam
hi everybody looks like a nice start to the week. hope everybody had a good weekend, with gas prices the way they are it is tough to travel much, the price has gone up 40 cents since this time last month. with this being president's day, the federal offices are all closed, the pmg made a statement last week that they would be starting 5 day first class delivery in aug, but 24 senators sent him a letter stating that he had to have their authorization to do that and that they had not gave him the authority so maybe this 5 day thing won't happen. i guess it is a good thing that people can not do what they want to all the time, that there are others who are watching what is going on. everybody enjoy the day.
hi everybody it is a cold 30 degree with the sun shining this morning, only a few more days left of this month, the wind sure was strong yesterday, this is feb borrowing off of march. i was walking through walmarts parking lot yesterday and had a paper in my hand, the wind just took it, and the last time i saw it, it was sailing through the air, not to think about what a hair day it was. everybody have a good day.
hello forum family, it's another cold snowy day here in michigan, sure wish spring would get here, it was wind chill of 10 degrees here this morning when i left the house about 5:30. supposed to be even colder in the morning. hope that everyone remembers to bundle up and keep their gloves close by. if we can hang on for another month we will be alright. fe if you know of anyone that would have any pictures of old Hardburly i would love to see them on here, i am going to try and keep pictures of the Hardburly that i remember because we don't have anymore old original buildings except the church. i sure wish i had taken more pictures when i was young, but you never know when things are going to leave for good, especially friends and family, love them all while you have them, you never know when you will lose them. everyone have a blessed day. prayers to all-------sam
hello forum family, was hoping to see some new names on here from the past, hopefully they will miss us and grt back on here one of these days and make it just like the old days, God Bless everyone and good night.
hi everybody sam i don't know who might have some old pictures of hardburly, maybe someone seeing your message will put some pictures on for you. ed grubbs died today, please pray for the family. ed had many friends that are going to miss him, he will be buried in the hardburly cemetary, as soon as i hear the arrangements i will let everyone know. today has been a pretty nice one, and the weekend is supposed to be too, it got up to 60 degrees. only 6 more days left of feb, if it wasn't so wet, this would be a good time to plant peas. everybody have a good weekend.
hi fe, i am so sorry to hear of Ed's passing, i knew him as a kid growing up in Hardburly, worked with him at General motors in michigan, and at one time we even rode to work together sometimes, i considered him a friend and will miss him alot,he got a bad break in life but never gave up. Rest in peace Ed.
hi sam thanks for showing the pictures,i had never seen the one of main st, it brings memories back of walking past the houses on the hillside, right beside of the houses at the end is where part of the hardburly cemetary is, it starts there and goes all the way to the top of the mountain, we use to walk around that way to go to mexico hollow where mr perdue had a small store, i remember buying strawberry and grape pops and walking back home drinking them around the edge of dark, and walking extra fast when we got to the cemetary part of the road, we often would go sit on a big rock below the cemetery and look down on part of main street, it faced the pool room and commissary, and we would stay there for long periods of time and watch what was going on. i wonder if you remember miss hatfield, the little lady that would walk around that road as it started to get dark, she was a harmless old lady but us kids didn't know that and we would see her coming and run in the house if we were outside playing, she would be looking for a place to stay at night. linda said that as children they would go around that road looking for strawberries. everybody have a good weekend. please remember the grubbs finally when you pray, arrangements have not been made for ed's funeral. they are a good family, never bothered anyone.
hi everybody the arrangements for ed grubbs have been made. his visitation will be at the hardburly baptist church after 5pm tomorrow evening, and his funeral will be at 12pm monday, his burial will take place at the hardburly cemetery. please pray for his family. talk to everybody later.
]hi fe, thanks for the onfo on ED's funeral, that family has been through alot, they have lost alot of family to death and most of them were very young when they passed away. i will surely keep them in my prayers. will see if i can post more of my pics i have collected over the years, God Bless and goodnight.------sam
